Inground Flush-Mount Traffic Spikes: Reliable Access Control With a Low Profile

TireShark™ Model 7500

Securing parking lots, garages, and private roads takes more than a locked gate or a barrier arm. Safety and control matter, especially where traffic flow needs direction or access must be limited. Here’s where inground flush-mount traffic spikes earn their keep. They control vehicle movement without drawing attention or posing extra risks. Let’s break down what makes these spikes a smart choice for property owners and facility managers.

What Are Inground Flush-Mount Traffic Spikes?

Inground flush-mount traffic spikes are sturdy metal barriers installed flat with the road surface. Unlike surface-mount spikes that sit on top of the pavement, flush-mount versions are set into the ground. The spikes only rise above the road when a car drives over them from one direction.

When a vehicle tries to exit or enter against the approved flow, these spikes puncture tires. The low profile means they won’t trip pedestrians or damage low-clearance vehicles when not engaged.

Typical Uses:

  • Parking lots
  • Gated communities
  • Industrial sites
  • Commercial loading docks

Other types, like surface mount or portable spike strips, can be bulky or easy to move. Inground flush-mount spikes offer a cleaner look with fewer hazards.

Key Benefits of Inground Flush-Mount Traffic Spikes

Choosing the right traffic control option saves time, prevents headaches, and keeps spaces orderly. Here’s what makes inground flush-mount traffic spikes effective.

Enhanced Security for Restricted Areas

Trespassers, unauthorized vehicles, or drivers ignoring signs can put your property at risk. These traffic spikes act as a strong physical deterrent, making it nearly impossible to drive the wrong way or sneak in. Unauthorized entry stops before it starts, giving peace of mind to property managers and residents.

Effective One-Way Traffic Management

Some areas demand clear rules about which way cars can move. Installing inground flush-mount traffic spikes forces drivers to follow traffic flow. They’re perfect for exit-only lanes or secured entry points, making traffic management almost effortless.

Minimized Tripping and Damage Risks

Old-style spike strips can be a trip hazard for people and a risk for cars with low ground clearance. Because these spikes sit flush with the road when not in use, they won’t snag shoes or damage undercarriages. The design helps blend safety with control.

The TireShark™ Model 7500 Inground Flush Mount Traffic Spikes feature a 3/8-inch thick deck and come in a 3-foot section with a red powder-coated finish. Each unit has spikes that rise 1 3/4 inches, built with a tough, non-welded frame. This model contains no zinc, meeting strict water mitigation standards. All bearing surfaces can be replaced easily, giving the system a long service life.

A simple latch-down device lets one person quickly lock the spikes in the down position in just seconds. These traffic spikes are suitable for all types and weights of vehicles, as the road carries the load. Recommended vehicle speed is up to 5 mph.

For secure installation, use a two-part construction epoxy. We offer this adhesive if needed. Avoid standard air-dry adhesives, as they can allow the unit to loosen over time or be removed more easily.

Easy Two-Step Installation

  1. Cut a small trench in your asphalt or concrete that is about half an inch wider than the recessed part of the unit and about 12 inches deep. Fill the bottom six inches with coarse gravel to help with drainage.
  2. Mix the two-part epoxy and spread it on the bottom of the upper support flanges. Place the unit into the trench, making sure the surface is clean and dry.

Check the epoxy instructions for drying times. Warm weather or extra heat can make the spikes ready to use in as little as two hours.
